idle grain truck

looks like harvest has come to a halt. this truck caught my eye against the white landscape. it's getting that time of year when the only colour on the prairie is 'paint'.

prairie fall

as i drove down south to visit my golf superintendent friend at his farm, i spotted these horses i had seen on the golf course a week or so ago. larry wondered if i had taken any photographs of the equine. i had not, as it was first light. so i decided to stop and shoot a few for him, and then convinced his daughter hannah, their dog molly, and the man himself, to pose for a portrait on the prairie. i like both shots, as neither were planned ..

day and night

it sure didn't take long for the cold winds and snow to blow into the hinterland. felt like a day to stay inside, but i put on the winter boots and went for a ride. i'm happy with this shot / trying to roll with the punches...

it's SNOWING today, so here is a shot from the last week or two, to help me get my mind off of "prairie global warming".

dave the dump boss

this is my portrait of dave, the keeper of the gate at our local garbage transfer station. (aka, the dump). growing up, the garbage dump was always accessible day or night / you took a load out and that was that. now, there are set hours, so it's become a bit of a 'deal', going on a dump run. open only 2 afternoons a week, it's a special event. "doin' a dump run tomorrow"???

dave was kind enough to sit for this photograph (it was a slow day).

when ford was king

this was one of many shots i did when i was shooting my portrait of tramp. his yard is a treasure... i'm going back for more.

tramp

here are 2 versions of my portrait of tramp. i have been wanting to capture 'terry', on film, for along time. this is fun for me. i photographed him 20 years ago when i was just starting out. he had a cool look then, and has a cool look now. i set out to shoot black and white, but i like the color shot as well.

any comments of one or the other??

cowboy on the plains part 2

this was my original intention re: style and technique for my portrait of barny. the other 2 B&W were after thoughts / not sure which one i like best, or the least.
