yaris turns one

happy birthday to the roaming yaris / i shot this a year ago / one of my favorites. sask is big sky country. quite the canvas to my eye...

saskatchewan landscape / coming soon

i'm hoping this is what the lay of the land will look like soon.

i shot this awhile back as i was scouting for an assignment for adidas. the mist is actually a smudge a farmer had going for the horses. i like the effect.

vancouver music vibe 2

ok, the 'story' seemed more interesting yesterday than it does today, but here goes.

i met Marrett and his friends in stanley park while i was shooting video of their "drum circle". i guess of group of 10 or so souls get together on sundays to lay down the beat from their african drums, called djembes. Marrett noticed me filming, and asked if he could get a dvd of the shoot.

so we finally met up yesterday to pass along the disc, and he brought his animal pal, Othello (all 160 lbs of him). i immediately thought of a portrait of the 2 of them, with his drum, down on the beach. but i wanted to shoot it after sunset, using flash etc etc, so i thought i'd shoot it next fall (as i'm heading back to the prairies). Marrett was game, but then we thought, why not try something right now/might fluke out. so he hustled home and got his djembes, and i went for the canon. we met half way / i saw the bench and the tree shadow. 5 minutes later, i had my shot. it might be a winner. well........ i like it at least..........

eventually, i will post the drum circle video.

tourism saskatchewan

man.. this is a blast from the past. i came across this image i shot for tourism sask a few years back. for you photo folks, i shot 4x5 / B&W film, and i think we did the color on a quantel paintbox (i'm sure i have spelled that wrong). any ways, it was a fun project.

in my search for a blog shot for today, i came across this plant (i believe it is a hosta). the light was nice, and i thought i could capture something interesting. i spent about a half hr watching/shooting. all the while, i saw this in black & white. so here are 2 variations. any comments?? thxs,

vancouver sun run 2009

the vancouver sunrun 2009 was today. i wanted to shoot video of the event. my film pal, tommie d., has a condo balcony with a first class view. i talked my way into the joint, and took this portrait of him as payback.

a bit about the run.... they say there were 55,000 folks participating. it's quite the spectacle. a 10-km race/walk. largest in the world. video to follow.

The Vancouver Sun Run, sponsored by The Vancouver Sun newspaper, is a 10-km race held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

vancouver canada

funny thing.. i'm getting slightly bored with shooting 'flowers' (m/b everyone is getting a little bored seeing them/my blog is starting to look like 'flower porn'). you know how it is when you haven't seen something for 'it seems like forever', and you can't get enough? then it becomes common place. but i'm not complaining/this part of the city smells like fresh laundry, and it's easy on the eyes. so........ i'll likely keep shooting.... flowers that is. (click on images to enlarge).

english bay.. again

i decided not to shoot for 'mr. blog' today. went for a long walk, met with a film editor, then strolled home. of course, what i saw along the way was the sun setting and the sky staging to show off. so i grabbed my gear and checked it out ( no one likes a show off). this is a portrait of my little video camera kickin' ass at english bay........

tree

sticking with the tree concept.....

vancouver, petal nest

this subject matter may be familiar to some. i shot this same tree one year ago, and went back today to have a look. pretty much the same deal.

vancouver canada, english bay

as it was raining most of this easter sunday in vancouver, i decided to slow roast some lamb, watch the masters, and hide the cameras. turns out, the clouds broke, and i had to get out and have a look. this is what i saw at english bay this eve. they kinda look like the velvet paintings you buy from the guy with the van in the parking lot. oh well, the lamb smells good / gotta go.

vancouver alley

ok, back to the 'door' theme for a bit. i just liked the light, and the colours. a break from the flower photographs.

blast from the past

a cold and rainy day here in vancouver, so i went to the archives. this is a shot i did of a friends daughter a few years back. i think its kind of timeless.
