gastown

i've walked by this intersection many times / today the light co-operated, and i had fun composing this shot. i thought someone would want to know what building this is (i don't), so i asked my sage friend chris. "It is the Dominion Building. built in 1904, it is 14 floors".

english bay abstract

i'm aware i post many shots of english bay ( possibly, too many). in my defense, it's right around the block, and it's a sweet location. this is a different take on the bay / and, the ships are still out there.....

post card

i have to say, these types of images are not my favorite. however, in the spirit of 'what i see and how i see it', this is the result. don't get me wrong /the sunset this eve was great to look at, and i intentionally went for a 'look'. i just need to get my photographic edge back (just kidding... sort of).

tourists taking pictures

a few shots from the 'bay' this eve. the beach looked interesting as the sun went down. i had some time to shoot what i saw, but then a couple entered the frame. in my past photo life, i would have hoped they'd move on. but i just waited and watched, and got a shot of them taking a 'shot'. turns out they were students from brazil on the last day of their trip.

like my last post, their presence makes the 2nd version, 'a moment in time'.

another dog, another sunset

ok, i had to go for a walk this eve, and the seawall is one of my tracks, and i had my camera, and the sun was setting.... so i thought i should linger. it was sweet to look at / boring as hell to photograph. but then the dog sprinted by, and this shot made my evening.

to me it moves beyond the cliche' / and becomes a moment in time. any comments?

east pender & main

had to return to the east pender & main area to shoot my version of the Ovaltine Hotel. i wanted to see the location under, what i consider, the right lighting conditions. i'm satisfied with my result. the neighbourhood is visually exciting/but challenging to photograph. a few of the locals gave me their vibe. all around.. no harm done.

note: i usually post one image ONLY. i wasn't sure which one was better? / comments?? (that is if you like). thxs.

stanley park, vancouver bc

ok, i've finally been instructed as to how to post a 'link'. for those who have not seen this photo video composed by my photo pal peter, please go to his blog here.

sorry to those that have received this more than once.

trailers for sale or rent...

a friend of mine in ontario put together a little video of some of my blog images (out of guilt). check out his blog with the link below. if the link doesn't "link", simply copy to your browser . thxs peter / did you write the song?

Cool shots lately ... liking the urban neighbourhood scenes.

Meanwhile, I hope you don't mind, but I made a photo-video using a bunch of your blog shots and did a post with it about a week ago. It's in lieu of commenting on the blog, so now I don't feel so guilty.

Check it out at http://imageport.wordpress.com/2009/01/17/dougs-pics/ (and turn your volume up because you won't want to miss the accompanying song).

fogged out

it's been 14 plus days of fog, so i had to go to the archives (fog can be a great element for photography, it just never found me). this is a shot i did awhile back at long beach, on the west coast of vancouver island. a version of this was used for a bc tourism campaign which ran in california. (for my photo pals.. sorry for the low res scan/i just had to post some sunshine). btw, it was shot in the month of january/we were there to shoot the winter storms. humm. we couldn't buy a cloud.
